Todays group I will be featuring is the rock band Cherry Filter.
Cherry Filter Debut in 1997, since then they have become one of the most popular bands in Korea, however they are not widely know among most kpop fans.
Hello Everyone, Toady I will be featuring a group that isn't exactly unknown, and have been gaining quite a bit of attention lately. However I feel they deserve a lot more praise for having such a unique group and for simply making good music. The group I speak of is Sunny Hill.
Sunny Hill now consists of five members however they originally debut as a trio. Janghyun (Leader, Producer, Vocalist)
Jubi (Main Vocalist)
Seunga (Vocalist)
Kota (Vocalist, Rapper) [Joined the group in 2010]
Misung (Vocalist, Rapper) [Joined the group in 2011]
In the past their have been many k-pop groups that had one female member and then like three or four male members, however I can't recall any that have one male and four female members like Sunny Hill has. I believe this formula is one that works very well for them. Their Youtubehttp://www.youtube.com/user/LOENARTIST Their videos are always interesting to watch here are a few of my favorites. The Grasshopper Song
Midnight Circus
Pray (Be warned that some people might find this video disturbing, but the song is beautiful)
통화연결음
So if you are looking for a group that is unique you should check out Sunny Hill.
Today I will be featuring a very famous artist in kpop, who I feel the new generation of kpop fans have yet to be introduced to. The person I speak of is Park Ji Yoon.
Debuting at the young age of 11 as a model and then moving into the music arena. She is a triple threat in that she has been a model, a singer, and an actress. Now reaching 30 her beauty is still breathtaking, and her voice has only matured and grown stronger over the years. Ji Yoon isn't just a pretty face she has a B.F.A. from Namseoul University in Environmental Art & Design. In an industry that is known for it's quickly fading stars she has managed to shine brightly and stay in the hearts of her fans. She is actually releasing a new album very soon so keep on the look out for it and swing by and check her official pages.
She is known for having music videos that tell a story, often to the point that they are shocking yet still beautiful, here are some of my favorite videos of her's.
In Faded Memory
I Am A Man
Swan
Don't Know Anything
UPDATE 2/20/12
Her new song Tree of Life
List of dramas she's been in:
Lie to Me (SBS, 2011)
Bicheonmu (SBS, 2008)
New Human Market (SBS, 2004)
Ghost (SBS, 1999)
Three Guys and Three Girls (MBC, 1997)
If nothing else check out her live version of In Faded Memory it will blow your mind.
I hope you will look forward to her comeback as much as I am!!!
Today I will be introducing you to a greatly under appreciated group, the group I speak of is the K-Rock band NIA.
NIA is a four piece all girl rock band consisting of
Choi Youngsin-Bass, Sseo Ji-Leader/Drummer, Soyeon Jeon-Vocal, Park Miyeon-Guitarist
Here's a nice little introduction video they made, they speak in Korean and English.
They debut in 2009 as an indie group and have been working hard ever since. Their style of music is like nothing I've ever heard before. Vocalist So Yeon has the voice of an angel, mix that with her band mates rocking sound and it is pure bliss. To date they have released four digital singles, three in the year 2009 and one in 2010. I'm a little worried that they haven't released anything recently however they have an official youtube which you can find http://www.youtube.com/user/4girlbandNIA/ videos they also have an official facebook url=http://www.facebook.com/niaband?v=info so check those out and if you like the group let them know you can't wait to hear more from them.
Now they have released only two music videos thus far.
The videos are:
Goodbye
Remember the Forest
I would also suggest listening to their song Every Night
So guys, show these girls some love and check out their videos and facebook.
Recently I have been researching the history of kpop, namely who were the first artists and groups that helped pave the way for today's kpop artist.
After all of my research I realized that not only is the Korean music scene so much larger then what I had been introduced to, but there are so many different genres of music in Korea, not just pop. So upon having this revelation I decided I would make it my mission to introduce others to not only kpop stars of the past, but stars of different genres in Korea, as well as stars that have fallen under the radar that major kpop sites do not cover. I believe it's important to listen to and watch older Kpop videos to see just how much kpop has evolved over the years.
So I will feature an artist in every blog post, I will talk about their background and then post some of their songs, and hopefully I can help expand others knowledge of the kpop world.
So that's the plan I hope you'll look forward to it, and let me know of what you think of the artist I feature. Also if anyone would like to suggest an artist that they think needs a little love, then feel free to leave a comment and I will try and cover them. · close
